Weekends of June 19 and 26, 2004

We had 2 weekends with discovery of differences in 1976 401 setup and 1988 GW 360 setup. The right exhaust manifold bolt holes needed to be drilled out to match bolt pattern. The 88 GW 360 has 3/8 inch bolts on center two ports and outer ports have 5/16 inch bolts. The 1976 401 has 3/8 inch bolts on all six. The original 88 Mitsubishi starter will not mate to the 1974 Matador 401 flex plate needed to mate TF727 to torque converter. We changed starter electrics to same as 1976. The original 1976 oil pressure sender will not work on 88 GW electrics, so 88 sender assembly was be installed on the 401. We didn't get pictures, but the tail end of the crankshaft on original 401s with T400 tranny configuration, have a collar sleeve inside where the torque converter "nose" slips into the crankshaft. This sleeve must be removed to mate engine to TF727 torque converter. If it is not removed, the engine crankshaft and TF727 will be damaged.
